A vase from the first firing of my own gas kiln!  I like that the carbon-trapped surface seems almost planetary. This jar too was fired in an anagama-style wood kiln in Nelson County, VA, and it also sat at the very front of the kiln.  As a result, it received a lot of melted ash, &, in this case, the grey of the ash makes a striking contrast to the orange of the shino glaze underneath it.
